Hair // Tips and Tricks

I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks for keeping hair healthy.

Combing Your Hair When Conditioning It
So to some of you, this may just be the norm but working in a salon it has become apparent to me that not a lot of people actually comb their hair through when conditioning. If you just slap on some conditioner, rub it in, leave it a few minutes and rinse then your hair is not getting the full benefit. Next time you condition, grab yourself a tangle teaser or comb and gently comb it through. Doing this enables the condition to be distributed everywhere, rather then a little bit here and a lot there.

Don't Brush Your Hair When It's Wet
Your hair is at it's weakest when wet so brushing it will cause breakage. Nobody wants that! The best thing to do is let it dry first, If you can't wait until it's dry then use a wide tooth comb and maybe spray some leave in conditioner or serum and be very gentle. I know this tip sort of contradicts the first one but the fact the conditioner is in the hair makes a big difference so combing isn't going to cause damage.

Get It Trimmed Regularly
You should be getting your hair cut every 3-6 months to keep it healthy and every 6-8 weeks to maintain a style. While cutting your hair may not make it grow quicker it may help your hair to grow longer in the long run. If you don't cut your hair for long periods of time, you end up with split hair making the hair thin and weak at the ends meaning it snaps off. Once the hair is split unless you have it cut off it's just going to continue to travel up your hair. Honestly just a little trim regularly will make a massive difference.

Use Coconut Oil
So as hair is made up of dead cells once it is damaged it's damaged - there's no coming back from it.
That doesn't mean you can't treat it with oils to prevent further damage. Using oil's on your hair will make it feel amazing too. I like to treat my hair once every 2 weeks to some oil-loving and have found that my hair is a lot stronger for it.
I used to smoother my hair in coconut oil before applying bleach to prevent damage too - it did take a little longer to lift as the oil acts as a bit of a barrier but it's worth it.

Avoid Hairbands With Metal Cuffs
So you know them evil little elastic bands that have a metal clasp, do not use them! Please!! They are awful for your hair. To cut a long story short, that little piece metal cuts your hair. Most ponytail lovers that use these end up with split ends right in the middle of their head. You can find hair friendly elastic bands in most supermarkets now. I usually get a pack of thin bands (they are stuck together with glue I believe) for a pound from Primark.

Don't Over Wash It
A lot of people wash their hair everyday, this is just not really necessary unless you have extremely greasy hair. I think every other day is good but if you can leave it longer then do. It's good to let your hair have some time with it's natural oils.

Always Comb Knots Out From The Bottom Up
So I think this is a really important one. When combing or brushing your hair you should always start from the bottom and work your way up the hair. If you have knots and then just start brushing from the top it's likely to make the knots 10x worst as you'll just be brushes at the knots at the top into the knots at the bottom. This could lend to your hair getting matted too.

Budget Beauty // ELF Studio Prism Eye shadow Palette in Naked

ELF Studio Prism Eye Shadow Palette in Nude

Nude shadows are my favourite to decorate my eyes. They're complimentary to all eye colours , go with almost any outfit and you can create something natural or dramatic. When I saw this palette I just knew it had to be added to my collection.
The palette contains 6 beautiful shimmery shadow, that all apart from the lightest shade could be worn as a one colour only eye, this is always good for when you don't have much time.
The texture is buttery, easily blend-able and just all round fabulous. I'm not saying these are the best eye shadows I have ever used but they certainly give some of my more expensive ones a run for their money. This cost £10 full price, not bad for such a good quality palette (ELF do often have deals on such as 15% to 25% off, so look out for an offer)
The packaging isn't particularly attractive but it is light and compact so great if you're someone who needs to carry make up around with them.
There are two other palettes in the range, Sunset and Smoke that I probably wouldn't get much use out of but are still really pretty if you're into bolder eyes.
What's you favourite budget eye shadow palette?

A New way of Life // Fitness

To be truly happy you have to be confident within yourself and I think body confidence is a big part of that. We can all fake it but wouldn't it be nice to actually feel it.
My mission this year is to get body confident.
I plan to do this by completely changing my lifestyle. Here is how I intend to do it -
Gym at least 4/5 times a week
Get strong and fit
Start running
Drink at least 2L of water a day
No skipping meals
Only 1 takeway a month
No fizzy drink
Eat well
The plan has been in place for a week and so far so good. I'm hoping to lose a few kg's and will be posting some before and after snaps monthly as I love seeing these pictures on other blogs.
While I am trying to lose weight I will be calorie counting using my fitness pal.
I'm really excited to see what this new lifestyle will bring, I already feel like I have more energy.
Please leave links to any blog posts you may have regarding your fitness and healthy eating as I would love to have a little read and also if you have any tips and tricks.

New Blog Design // Trisarahtops Smiles

So the blogs had a make over. What do you think?
I found the lovely Sarah over at Trisarahtops Smiles on twitter  and I can't express how glad I am that I did!
As I am a complete doughnut when it comes to anything like this, I was a little nervous to contact her but she put me at ease straight away. Sarah asked me to fill out a form so she could get an idea of the sort of thing I was looking for. I found this quite good for me as well because I knew I wanted my blog re-vamped but didn't really know where to start. So the form gets you thinking.
All her designs are custom made to you and Sarah makes it very easy to tell her if you would like something changed.

It took a week in total from the day I contacted her to finish the design and install the blog.  I thought I would be waiting a month at least considering she doesn't charge very much at all considering her talent. I'm so happy with the new design and honestly can't thank Sarah enough.

Sarah is currently charging £20 for a Full Customer Blog Design, What a bargain?
Please check out Sarah's Website here, if you are interested.

Top 5 Beauty Product of 2014

Makeup Revolution Blush in Sugar
This blush is just perfection. It cost a pound, it's pigmented, it's the perfect colour for any occasion and it blends into the skin seamlessly. I have more blusher than is necessary for 1 person to have in a lifetime but I always gravitate towards this one. Makeup Revolutions cream blushers are also among some of my favorites so you shouold definitely check them out.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Light
This little beauty has been keeping my dark circles hidden for the best part of this year. I did have a problem getting my hands on the shade light for a while and heard some rumors about it being discontinued but then it just reappeared in my local Superdrug and all was well again. It's light but pigmented, doesn't crease in the fine lines and stays put all day. What more could a girl ask for from her concealer?

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist
Last year I was more of a red lipped kinda girl. This year I've been all about the nudes and this has been my go to lippy for months now. Perfect for my pale skin it doesn't wash me out and make me look corpsey, like so many another nudes I have collecting dust in my lipstick draw. It's buttery, doesn't dry up and crack like so many other velvet/matte lip products.

Maybelline Rocket Mascara
With mascara I usually just pick up whatever is on offer, they just don't really excite me like other makeup products. This mascara is hands down the best I have ever used and I just can't find anything bad to say about it.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
They have the name of this sponge down to a T, it works like a dream. I have dry skin so a lot of foundations tend to cake up on me (L'oreal True Match and Revlon Color stay I am looking at you). I use this sponge wet and that it helps to put a bit of moisture back in to the foundation. What I also love about this sponge is you can get anything from a sheer to full coverage. A lot of people think the sponge soaks up loads of the product but I haven't really found this to be a problem for me. It has saved me quite a bit of money because it has allowed me to use products that were collecting dust in my draw and for that I am grateful. (I thought I'd buy a new one for this post as nobody wants to see a grubby one)

Please leave your links below with your top products of 2014.

New Years Resolutions

Healthy Eating and Fitness
I'm always going to start my healthy lifestyle 'Monday' and I'm sure a lot of you can probably guess Monday is always another week away. I am determined to get strong and healthy this year though as I have gained a few lb's over the past year and am starting to feel uncomfortable. So time for change......

I intend to keep you posted about my fitness journey.

Be More Creative
My boyfriend bought me a sewing machine for my birthday and I haven't used it. My birthday was in July, how bad is that? Finding the time to sit down and do some crafts is quite hard but I really enjoy being creative and really want to start making things for around the house.

Blog More
I actually started blogging a couple of years ago but kept deleting the content then a couple of months later I would start again. When I finally got into the swing of blogging, my laptop broke so that made it quite difficult for me to post. I was really well behaved this year in the hope that Steven Santa would get me one for Christmas and to my delight he did and I can't thank him enough.

Just for a rainy day. This is probably going to be the hardest as I love spending money I just get the urge sometimes to buy shiny new things. This should probably be titled Stop Buying Stuff I Don't Need - but there's no point being unrealistic now is there!

Has to be done.
I think there is nothing more important than being happy with your surrounding, you spend a large amount of time at home so you have to make the best of it. I'm really excited about this one. This also helps with my plans to be more creative. Kills two birds with one stone really.

I also intend to kept you posted with the progress.

Hope you all had an amazing New Years Eve.
